This is a well-justified review of the experience with erythrocytapheresis as an adjunct therapy in severe and complicated malaria in returning travellers. The study centre of Vienna saw over 100 cases in the 10 years planned for this review and carried out exchange in 6 patients, although a slightly higher number were eligible for exchange.
