Malaria Journal 2009, 8:148 (3 July 2009)
[Abstract] [Provisional PDF]

A small-scale clinical trial of an ACT combination which has not been used in Africa, and which has some clear logistical advantages, especially its once-only dosing

2La chromosomal inversion enhances thermal tolerance of Anopheles gambiae larvae
Kyle AC Rocca, Emilie M Gray, Carlo Costantini, Nora J Besansky
Malaria Journal 2009, 8:147 (2 July 2009)
[Abstract] [Provisional PDF]

The increased thermo-tolerance observed in 2La larvae following heat hardening suggests higher responsiveness of the inverted karyotype. By responding more drastically to the heat shock, 2La larvae are better equipped to resist the potentially lethal temperatures that occur in arid habitats.

Arthur Mpimbaza, Sarah G Staedke, Grace Ndeezi, Justus Byarugaba, Philip J Rosenthal
Malaria Journal 2009, 8:145 (29 June 2009)
[Abstract] [Provisional PDF] [PubMed] [Related articles]

Specific predictors, including cerebral malaria, can identify patients with malaria at risk of anti-convulsant treatment failure and seizure recurrence. It is interesting that diazepam appears to be more effective in malaria than in non-malaria patients.
