Vivax malaria in Mauritania includes infection of a Duffy-negative individual Nathalie Wurtz, Khadijetou Mint Lekweiry, Hervé Bogreau, Bruno Pradines, Christophe Rogier, Ali Ould Mohamed Salem Boukhary, Jamal Eddine Hafid, Mohamed Salem Ould Ahmedou Salem, Jean-François Trape, Leonardo K Basco, Sébastien Briolant Malaria Journal 2011, 10:336 (3 November 2011) The paper further documents the susceptibility of individuals previously considered to be resistant to P. vivax infection and disease. Moreover, with previous reports, their findings in Mauritania now illustrate that the capacity of P. vivax to infect Duffy-negatives spans from coastal western Africa to eastern African study locations in Kenya and in Madagascar.
