The epidemiology of postpartum malaria: a systematic review

Machteld E Boel, Marcus J Rijken, Bernard J Brabin, Francois Nosten, Rose McGready Malaria Journal 2012, 11:114 (13 April 2012)

The major findings of this review are a decrease in the risk of malaria infection after delivery (compared to the gestational period), but still a higher risk in the postpartum compared to non-pregnant controls. The authors discuss the protection conferred in the postpartum by IPTp or chemoprophylaxis, and the risk of recrudescence of resistant parasites due to inadequate treatment in the gestational period.

Rural health centres, communities and malaria case detection in Zambia using mobile telephones: a means to detect potential reservoirs of infection in unstable transmission conditions

Aniset Kamanga, Petros Moono, Gillian Stresman, Sungano Mharakurwa, Clive Shiff Malaria Journal 2010, 9:96 (15 April 2010)

Adequate supplies of RDT are essential in health centres: in this project, twelve rural health centres send weekly information of rapid malaria tests used and number of positive diagnoses to the Malaria Institute at Macha using mobile telephone SMS
