Marked differences in CRP genotype frequencies between the Fulani and sympatric ethnic groups in Africa

Elisabeth Israelsson, Mattias Ekström, Amre Nasr, Amagana Dolo, Susannah Kearsley, Gishanthi Arambepola, Manijeh Homann, Bakary Maiga, Ogobara K Doumbo, Gehad ElGhazali, Hayder A Giha, Marita Troye-Blomberg, Klavs Berzins, Per Tornvall Malaria Journal 2009, 8:136 (22 June 2009)

The frequency of the CRP-286A allele, which correlates with high levels of serum CRP, is lower in Fulani, an ethnic group with low susceptibility to malaria. This could be a selective advantage in fighting malaria infection.
