Detection of high levels of mutations involved in anti-malarial drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax at a rural hospital in southern Ethiopia

Patricia Mula, Amalia Fernández-Martínez, Aida de Lucio, Jose Ramos, Francisco Reyes, Vicenta González, Agustín Benito, Pedro Berzosa Malaria Journal 2011, 10:214 (2 August 2011)

This paper describes the frequency of molecular markers of SP and CQ resistance in isolates from Ethiopia. This is important information, as very few studies have measured these markers of resistance in Ethiopia.

Molecular surveillance of Plasmodium vivax dhfr and dhps mutations in isolates from Afghanistan

Sedigheh Zakeri, Mandana Afsharpad, Faezeh Ghasemi, Ahmad Raeisi, Najibullah Safi, Waqar Butt, Hoda Atta, Navid D Djadid Malaria Journal 2010, 9:75 (14 March 2010)

A study monitoring Plasmodium vivax dhfr and dhps mutations in Afganistan, which is important for baseline information of polymorphisms of these two genes in this country. The PCR-RFLP applied to sample genetic analysis is a rapid method comparing to gene sequencing.
