Erythropoietin and its receptors in the brainstem of adults with fatal falciparum malaria Isabelle M Medana, Nicholas PJ Day, Tran Hien, Nicholas J White, Gareth DH Turner Malaria Journal 2009, 8:261 (22 November 2009) There is a lack of histopathological reports and careful studies like this one are required to further elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms of adult severe malaria. This report attempts to answer a potentially important question since erythropoietin therapy is being trialed in Africa.
