This paper addresses an important, timely topic: if pathogen transmission can be reduced by administering a drug to reduce the density (at individual-level) and prevalence (at population-level) of its transmission forms, by killing transmission forms, then administering drug when transmission forms are present will be more effective than administering drug when they are not. The mathematical model used builds a compelling case for a better timing of primaquine administration.
