Oscar Akide-Ndunge, Elisa Tambini, Giuliana Giribaldi, Paul J McMillan, Sylke Müller, Paolo Arese, Francesco Turrini Malaria Journal 2009, 8:113 (29 May 2009) A study of the expression of antioxidant enzymes and heat shock proteins of infected red blood cells under normal and oxidative conditions. Exogenous oxidative stress or cultivation of parasites in G6PD-deficient RBCs resulted in enhanced transcription and expression of all genes tested. The outstanding finding of this investigation is that the expression of Hsps was redox-responsive.

Zbynek Bozdech, Hagai Ginsburg Malaria Journal 2005, 4:17 (18 March 2005) In order to be useful, the huge amount of transcriptomic data now available for malarial parasites needs to be linked to already available biochemical and functional data. This was done here for the pentose phosphate pathway of carbohydrate metabolism.
